Climate Control Program Participants

The Getting Climate Control Under Control Program is a unique program supporting museums to take collective action in updating climate control and loan agreements. Cohorts work in groups of 10 to support case studies and influence national changes. Individual participants innovate leadership by tackling specific issues which inspires change within the community and across the globe. Meet our participants and learn about their journeys!

The Danish Cohort

In partnership with the Association of Danish Museums (ODM), the Getting Climate Control Under Control Program was piloted with 10 museums in Denmark from May 2023 until December 2024. Over the 18 month program, museums worked collectively to update practices for climate control and loan agreements while optimizing energy use and facilities operations. Museums saved up to 50% on their energy consumption and these cumulative savings will continue through developed long term strategies to continue energy efficiency and best collections care practices. Watch the ICCC II to hear how they did it! Case studies from each participating museum were presented and don’t forget to check out the discussion and Q&A!

The French Cohort

In partnership with ICOM France, the Getting Climate Control Under Control Program was launched in France in October 2024. This program will focus on updates climate control practices to facilitate carbon reduction at museums across the country – and a partner museum in Guadalupe! During the ICCC, we welcomed the French participants and learned more about the collaboration, which includes the development of a Manual to support French museums nationally in saving carbon, energy, and money!

North America

Museums, Galleries and Foundations in the United States and Canada are stepping up as leaders in the climate control conversation and showing how this can be done to inspire colleagues globally. We have had the immense pleasure of working with these game changers and future-oriented thought leaders on updating climate control and facilities practices to get a better understanding of what is needed and what is acceptable as well as revisit the unrealistic “standards” of loan agreements to make art more accessible.
